(Expert Opin. Drug Saf., 2005) on recombinant activated Factor VII (rFVIIa) offers some valuable insights into the ongoing exploration of this agent in the management of uncontrolled bleeding--an area of high unmet clinical need. This editorial highlights that the chosen citation of Riou et al. (Shock, 2004), in reference to two parallel studies conducted in trauma patients with blunt and penetrating injury, was both a report of an early analysis of the data, and was only one of several abstracts on these studies published in 2004. The authors of this editorial believe that the inclusion of the other published abstracts in this series would have provided a more comprehensive and balanced overview of recombinant activated Factor VII.</AbstractText>
<AuthorList CompleteYN="Y"><Author ValidYN="Y"><LastName>Zakhary</LastName><ForeName>Randa Grob</ForeName><Initials>RG</Initials></Author><Author ValidYN="Y"><LastName>Seremetis</LastName><ForeName>Stephanie</ForeName><Initials>S</Initials></Author></AuthorList><Language>eng</Language><PublicationTypeList><PublicationType UI="D016420">Comment</PublicationType><PublicationType UI="D016421">Editorial</PublicationType></PublicationTypeList></Article><MedlineJournalInfo><Country>England</Country><MedlineTA>Expert Opin Drug Saf</MedlineTA><NlmUniqueID>101163027</NlmUniqueID><ISSNLinking>1474-0338</ISSNLinking></MedlineJournalInfo><ChemicalList><Chemical><RegistryNumber>0</RegistryNumber><NameOfSubstance UI="D011994">Recombinant Proteins</NameOfSubstance></Chemical><Chemical><RegistryNumber>72175-66-7</RegistryNumber><NameOfSubstance UI="D015944">Factor VIIIa</NameOfSubstance></Chemical></ChemicalList><CitationSubset>IM</CitationSubset><CommentsCorrectionsList><CommentsCorrections RefType="CommentOn"><RefSource>Expert Opin Drug Saf. 2005 May;4(3):557-70. doi: 10.1517/14740338.4.3.557.</RefSource><PMID Version="1">15934860</PMID></CommentsCorrections></CommentsCorrectionsList><MeshHeadingList><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D019317" MajorTopicYN="N">Evidence-Based Medicine</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D015944" MajorTopicYN="N">Factor VIIIa</DescriptorName><QualifierName UI="Q000009" MajorTopicYN="Y">adverse effects</QualifierName><QualifierName UI="Q000627" MajorTopicYN="Y">therapeutic use</QualifierName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D006470" MajorTopicYN="N">Hemorrhage</DescriptorName><QualifierName UI="Q000188" MajorTopicYN="Y">drug therapy</QualifierName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D006801" MajorTopicYN="N">Humans</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D011994" MajorTopicYN="N">Recombinant Proteins</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D014949" MajorTopicYN="N">Wounds, Nonpenetrating</DescriptorName><QualifierName UI="Q000150" MajorTopicYN="Y">complications</QualifierName><QualifierName UI="Q000601" MajorTopicYN="N">surgery</QualifierName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D014950" MajorTopicYN="N">Wounds, Penetrating</DescriptorName><QualifierName UI="Q000150" MajorTopicYN="Y">complications</QualifierName><QualifierName UI="Q000601" MajorTopicYN="N">surgery</QualifierName></MeshHeading></MeshHeadingList></MedlineCitation><PubmedData><History><PubMedPubDate PubStatus="pubmed"><Year>2005</Year><Month>8</Month><Day>23</Day><Hour>9</Hour><Minute>0</Minute></PubMedPubDate><PubMedPubDate PubStatus="medline"><Year>2006</Year><Month>2</Month><Day>16</Day><Hour>9</Hour><Minute>0</Minute></PubMedPubDate><PubMedPubDate PubStatus="entrez"><Year>2005</Year><Month>8</Month><Day>23</Day><Hour>9</Hour><Minute>0</Minute></PubMedPubDate></History><PublicationStatus>ppublish</PublicationStatus><ArticleIdList><ArticleId IdType="pubmed">16111444</ArticleId><ArticleId IdType="doi">10.1517/14740338.4.5.813</ArticleId></ArticleIdList></PubmedData></PubmedArticle></PubmedArticleSet>
