Representative members of discrete classes are often conserved widely throughout evolution and this can extend to their genomic organisation and biological function. In this paper we report the first complete cDNA sequence of a member of the GBX class of homeobox genes, the murine gene Gbx-2. Sequence comparisons indicate that this homeodomain class is highly conserved within vertebrates. The homeodomain differs at only three positions out of 60 and these can be used to subdivide the GBX class homeodomains into 2 sub-classes.</AbstractText>
<AuthorList CompleteYN="Y"><Author ValidYN="Y"><LastName>Chapman</LastName><ForeName>G</ForeName><Initials>G</Initials><AffiliationInfo><Affiliation>Department of Biochemistry, University of Adelaide, Australia.</Affiliation></AffiliationInfo></Author><Author ValidYN="Y"><LastName>Rathjen</LastName><ForeName>P D</ForeName><Initials>PD</Initials></Author></AuthorList><Language>eng</Language><PublicationTypeList><PublicationType UI="D003160">Comparative Study</PublicationType><PublicationType UI="D016428">Journal Article</PublicationType><PublicationType UI="D013485">Research Support, Non-U.S. Gov't</PublicationType></PublicationTypeList></Article><MedlineJournalInfo><Country>England</Country><MedlineTA>FEBS Lett</MedlineTA><NlmUniqueID>0155157</NlmUniqueID><ISSNLinking>0014-5793</ISSNLinking></MedlineJournalInfo><ChemicalList><Chemical><RegistryNumber>0</RegistryNumber><NameOfSubstance UI="D018076">DNA, Complementary</NameOfSubstance></Chemical><Chemical><RegistryNumber>0</RegistryNumber><NameOfSubstance UI="C513182">Gbx2 protein, mouse</NameOfSubstance></Chemical><Chemical><RegistryNumber>0</RegistryNumber><NameOfSubstance UI="D018398">Homeodomain Proteins</NameOfSubstance></Chemical><Chemical><RegistryNumber>24937-83-5</RegistryNumber><NameOfSubstance UI="D011061">Poly A</NameOfSubstance></Chemical><Chemical><RegistryNumber>9DLQ4CIU6V</RegistryNumber><NameOfSubstance UI="D011392">Proline</NameOfSubstance></Chemical></ChemicalList><CitationSubset>IM</CitationSubset><GeneSymbolList><GeneSymbol>Gbx-2</GeneSymbol></GeneSymbolList><MeshHeadingList><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D000595" MajorTopicYN="N">Amino Acid Sequence</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D000818" MajorTopicYN="N">Animals</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D001483" MajorTopicYN="N">Base Sequence</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D005075" MajorTopicYN="Y">Biological Evolution</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D017124" MajorTopicYN="Y">Conserved Sequence</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D018076" MajorTopicYN="N">DNA, Complementary</DescriptorName><QualifierName UI="Q000737" MajorTopicYN="N">chemistry</QualifierName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D005801" MajorTopicYN="Y">Genes, Homeobox</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D018398" MajorTopicYN="N">Homeodomain Proteins</DescriptorName><QualifierName UI="Q000737" MajorTopicYN="N">chemistry</QualifierName><QualifierName UI="Q000235" MajorTopicYN="Y">genetics</QualifierName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D051379" MajorTopicYN="N">Mice</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D008969" MajorTopicYN="N">Molecular Sequence Data</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D008970" MajorTopicYN="N">Molecular Weight</DescriptorName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D011061" MajorTopicYN="N">Poly A</DescriptorName><QualifierName UI="Q000378" MajorTopicYN="N">metabolism</QualifierName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D011392" MajorTopicYN="N">Proline</DescriptorName><QualifierName UI="Q000032" MajorTopicYN="N">analysis</QualifierName></MeshHeading><MeshHeading><DescriptorName UI="D016415" MajorTopicYN="N">Sequence Alignment</DescriptorName></MeshHeading></MeshHeadingList></MedlineCitation><PubmedData><History><PubMedPubDate PubStatus="pubmed"><Year>1995</Year><Month>5</Month><Day>15</Day></PubMedPubDate><PubMedPubDate PubStatus="medline"><Year>1995</Year><Month>5</Month><Day>15</Day><Hour>0</Hour><Minute>1</Minute></PubMedPubDate><PubMedPubDate PubStatus="entrez"><Year>1995</Year><Month>5</Month><Day>15</Day><Hour>0</Hour><Minute>0</Minute></PubMedPubDate></History><PublicationStatus>ppublish</PublicationStatus><ArticleIdList><ArticleId IdType="pubmed">7758585</ArticleId><ArticleId IdType="doi">10.1016/0014-5793(95)00410-b</ArticleId><ArticleId IdType="pii">0014-5793(95)00410-B</ArticleId></ArticleIdList></PubmedData></PubmedArticle></PubmedArticleSet>
