This situation most commonly arises when taking the possessive of titles that [[Wikipedia:Manual of Style (text formatting)#Italic face|should be italicized]]. &lt;code&gt;&lt;nowiki&gt;{{&#039;}}&lt;/nowiki&gt;&lt;/code&gt; is shorter than &lt;code&gt;&lt;nowiki&gt;&lt;nowiki&gt;&#039;&lt;/nowiki&gt;&lt;/nowiki&gt;&lt;/code&gt; and clearer than an unadorned &lt;code&gt;&lt;nowiki&gt;&amp;amp;#39;&lt;/nowiki&gt;&lt;/code&gt;.<br /> <br /> This template leaves leading space before the apostrophe, unlike the similar {{tl|`}} (no spacing). This template is intended for use with &#039;&#039;[[Italic type|italic]]&#039;&#039; text, whereas {{tl|`}} is intended for use with non-italic text.
